This section outlines the policy regarding the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools specifically generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI), in academic writing and research. This policy establishes how authors, reviewers, and editors may utilise these tools during the publication process.

Guidelines on Gen-AI Use for Authors

1. Authors may use Gen-AI tools for limited academic assistance, such as: (a) checking grammar, editing for clarity, or rephrasing academic sentences; (b) supporting idea development, outlining, or improving readability; and (c) supporting data analysis, coding, or bibliometric/qualitative processing tools, provided this is relevant and transparently reported.
2. Gen-AI must not replace critical intellectual contributions. Core scientific reasoning, originality, methodology, data interpretation, and conclusions remain the author's responsibility.
3. Authors are prohibited from listing Gen-AI as an author.
4. Using Gen-AI to generate fabricated (fake) data, references, citations, or research results is prohibited.
5. Submitting AI-generated text or images without human intellectual contribution is prohibited.
6. Using Gen-AI to evade plagiarism detection or to disguise copied content is prohibited.
7. Any violation may result in the rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
8. If Gen-AI tools are used during manuscript preparation, authors must include a brief statement in the Acknowledgements section specifying the tool used, its version (if available), and the purpose of its use. Example: “The authors used ChatGPT for language editing and grammar checking. The authors generated all intellectual content, analysis, and interpretation.” Disclosure is not required for automated grammar checking tools integrated into word-processing applications.
9. Authorship status requires human academic contribution. Gen-AI tools cannot meet accountability standards regarding originality and academic integrity, research design and analysis, ethical responsibility, and copyright and publication licensing.
10. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and ethical validity of all content generated using Gen-AI tools.

Guidelines on Gen-AI Use for Reviewers and Editors

1. Reviewers and editors may use Gen-AI to refine the language of their comments, check the readability of feedback, and assist with task organisation.
2. Reviewers and editors are prohibited from using Gen-AI to input manuscripts or confidential review data, generating review comments or evaluations, or making decisions without human judgment (analysing, assessing, or drafting review comments, as well as inputting/uploading manuscripts or portions thereof into AI applications).
3. Plagiarism and Ethics Checks: All manuscripts involving Generative AI (Gen-AI) remain subject to standard ethical procedures, including similarity checks, data verification, and copyright checks.
4. The use of AI by reviewers or the editorial team does not absolve them of their respective responsibilities regarding the originality, confidentiality, and integrity of the article, nor the decisions made.

Research Integrity Review

Undisclosed or unethical use of Generative AI may be classified as a violation of publication ethics.
