Publications Ethics

The publication ethics adopted by JURNAL KOMUNITAS are based on the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding all aspects of publishing ethics, including the handling of cases involving ethical misconduct. This code of ethics serves as a reference for all parties involved in the publication process : journal managers, editors, peer reviewers, and authors, who must uphold three core values :

Duties, Responsibilities, and Ethics of Journal Manager

1. Determine the journal's name, scientific scope, publication frequency, and accreditation status
2. Determine the membership of the editorial board and the pool of reviewers
3. Act as a liaison between the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and relevant parties for each issue
4. Respect confidentiality regarding researchers, authors, editors, and peer reviewers
5. Implement norms and regulations concerning intellectual property rights, particularly copyright
6. Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, the editorial board, peer reviewers, and readers
7. Establish guidelines for the conduct of editors and peer reviewers
8. Publish the journal regularly
9. Develop collaboration and marketing networks
10. Handle licensing and other legal requirements

Editor Duties, Responsibilities, and Ethics

1. Maintain editorial independence and act fairly and professionally toward all authors and reviewers
2. Maintain manuscript confidentiality and ensure a fair review process
3. Select reviewers appropriately
4. Manage conflicts of interest, including refraining from handling articles linked to the editor.
5. Refrain from using unpublished articles for personal gain
6. Address allegations of misconduct, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, redundant publication, duplicate submission, citation manipulation, peer review manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and other breaches of research ethics.
7. Refrain from making baseless accusations regarding misconduct; handle cases fairly and based on evidence.
8. Determine and implement appropriate actions, such as corrections or retractions in the event of post-publication errors
9. Handle complaints and appeals
10. Uphold the quality and integrity of the scholarly record
11. Assume responsibility for editorial decisions.

Reviewer Duties, Responsibilities, and Ethics

1. Accept assignments from editors to review manuscripts and submit findings to the editor to assist in determining the manuscript's suitability for publication

2. Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they are personally involved, whether directly or indirectly

3. Protect author privacy by not disclosing corrections, suggestions, or recommendations to third parties

4. Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts professionally by providing polite, objective, and constructive comments

5. Review manuscripts promptly, adhering to the publication's specific style guidelines and established scientific principles

6. Review only those articles that fall within their area of scientific expertise

7. Refrain from coercing authors into citing the reviewer's own work

8. Ensure that review findings represent personal input or insights, without involving others or utilizing artificial intelligence tools

9. Refrain from using information from the manuscript for the reviewer's personal gain
10. Report any suspected misconduct regarding the scholarly work to the editor

Author Duties, Responsibilities, and Ethics

1. Ensure proper registration as an author
2. Assume responsibility for the work and content of the article submitted to the editorial team
3. Respond to comments made by peer reviewers professionally and promptly (by making revisions)
4. Inform the editor if intending to withdraw the manuscript
5. Declare that the article submitted for publication is original, free from plagiarism, has not been published elsewhere (in any language), and is not currently under consideration by another publisher
6. Declare that the published work is free from conflicts of interest and has been approved by all relevant parties
7. List as authors only those individuals who have made genuine contributions to the research and the drafting of the article
8. Provide accurate attribution and avoid citation manipulation
9. Respect the review process and refrain from manipulating the selection or conduct of reviewers
10. Present data honestly; avoid fabrication or falsification.

Handling Violations (Misconduct) of Publication Ethics

1. Receipt and report logging

2. Preliminary assessment

3. Collection of relevant evidence

4. Providing the accused party with the opportunity to clarify

5. Determining whether institutional involvement is necessary

6. Determining the course of action: 

- Not proven: Process terminated/documented

- Error can be corrected: Correction/Erratum

- Under investigation and potentially affecting reliability: Expression of Concern

- In cases of serious ethical violations such as plagiarism, data manipulation, copyright infringement, or other unethical conduct (proven unreliable), Jurnal KOMUNITAS reserves the right to:

a. Reject or retract the published article

b. Issue a formal notification to the author and the relevant institution.

c. Terminate future publication collaboration.

7. Hold the author fully accountable for any academic or legal consequences arising from the misconduct.
