REPRESENTASI INSECURE DALAM FILM IMPERFECT: KARIER, CINTA, DAN TIMBANGAN (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA ROLAND BARTHES)

Abstract

This study aims to understand the representation of insecurity in the film "Imperfect: Career, Love, and Scales." This film raises social issues related to a lack of self-confidence and the pressure to conform to beauty standards. The importance of this research lies in responding to the mental health crisis, namely the emergence of several extreme cases, such as bullying and suicide, which show that understanding the roots of insecurity is crucial to preventing fatal psychological impacts. A critical analysis is also needed on how mass media, through film, criticize the beauty myths that shackle Indonesian society. Using Roland Barthes' approach, it is important to uncover the meaning behind visual symbols that often unconsciously internalize feelings of inferiority in the audience. The results show that the film effectively presents various aspects of insecurity through the main character, Rara, and other characters. This film is a reflection tool for society to reevaluate its views on physical appearance standards and encourages the creation of a more supportive social environment. It provides an understanding that self-acceptance is a key step in building mental health, so that individuals no longer feel isolated simply because they do not meet unrealistic beauty ideals.
